Small talk about inequality.

This idea came to me today as I was bound to finish an essay for school.
Perhaps 19th-century French dramatist Henry Becque said it the clearest: "What makes equality such a difficult business is that we only want it with our superiors."
In other words, people want to be equal with those above them on the social scale; but not many would be willing to limit their privileges and advantages by granting equality to those they consider to be below them.

  1. That's interesting. I never really thought of it that way. Although I suppose one with social conscience may not want to be equal with those who have less but will still work to bring those people up to equal standards.

  2. "What makes equality such a difficult business is that we only want it with our superiors." E cel mai tare citat pe care l-am citit in ultima vreme. ;)) Cat adevar!
